Day Activities

Day 1 Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Day Hike

The day begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha, usually between 0600 and 0700 hours, to ensure a relaxed and well paced hiking experience. From Arusha, you will travel approximately 120 kilometers, with a driving time of around 2 to 2.5 hours, heading east toward the town of Marangu, located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The drive passes through fertile farmland, coffee plantations, banana groves, and traditional Chagga villages, offering scenic views of rural northern Tanzania and, on clear days, impressive views of Mount Kilimanjaro itself.

Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, situated at an altitude of approximately 1,860 meters above sea level, you will complete park registration and meet your professional mountain guide. After a detailed safety briefing and overview of the hiking route, you will begin your guided hike into Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. The trail leads gently uphill through dense rainforest, following a wide and well maintained path suitable for hikers with moderate fitness levels.

The hike covers a distance of approximately 7 to 8 kilometers round trip, with an average hiking time of 4 to 5 hours, depending on walking pace and weather conditions.
